Morrie Schwartz foi professor de Sociologia da Universidade Brandeis em Waltham, Massachussets, durante trinta e cinco anos, antes de aposentar-se.
Sua experiência e visão de mundo foram apresentados no Boston Globe e em vários programas de rádio e televisão, incluindo o Nightline, um dos mais famosos talkshows da televisão americana.
Mais do que ensinar sociologia, Morrie Schwartz ensinou a seus alunos uma bela maneira de encarar a vida e a morte, tornando a existência algo com mais sentido e alegria.

Aos 75 anos de idade, Morrie Schwartz foi diagnosticado com uma esclerose incurável, debilitante e fatal. Em vez de se retirar da vida activa, este notável professor decidiu preencher ao máximo o tempo que lhe restava e dedicou-se à sua maior aventura no ensino: partilhar a sua visão acerca da vida e da morte com o mundo.
